The inaugural Minnesota Monthly Best MN Town Search sought to find and celebrate the town that best embodies the “Spirit of Minnesota.” After thoughtful submissions by many city officials, a rigorous and purposeful evaluation process involving Minnesota Monthly’s editorial team, a group of esteemed Minnesotans (Katie Roberts – MN Historical Society, Kevin Kling – Playwright and Author, and Dan McElroy – Hospitality MN), and online and public voting, we are proud to announce Bemidji as the winner of the Best Minnesota Town contest in 2017!

Over a decade ago, Bemidji area leaders came together to help the community create a shared vision for its future and defined Bemidji’s future as being: a healthy community; a vibrant economic center; a social, cultural, recreational and educational magnet; a diverse community; a people committed to prosperity and stewardship; and a model of community success. Minnesota Monthly is proud to recognize the people and community of Bemidji as the inaugural winner of the Best Minnesota Town contest!
